MTN SUNCITY FEST 2015 TAKES OFF AT TECHIMAN



This year’s inter-community soccer gala competition, dubbed, “MTN-Suncity Fest, 2015” took off at the Nana Ameyaw Park, Techiman, over the week end. The one-day soccer fiesta, was a collaborative effort between Africa’s Telecommunications Giant, MTN and Suncity Radio, a Sunyani based FM Station.
Addressing the opening ceremony, Mrs Salomey Darko, MTN’s Regional Marketing Officer-in-charge of the Northern Sector, said the inter-community soccer gala was part of her outfit’s corporate social responsibility of giving back to their cherished customers, nationwide.
She said aside of the fun-fair attached to the event, it was MTN’s desire to unearth soccer talents in the youth of the country, and help develop them to higher heights. Mrs Darko stated that the month-long programme would continue to Sunyani and Berekum, and was hopeful that it would get bigger and better in the years ahead.
On his part, Mr Ransford Antwi, Managing Director of Suncity Radio, lauded MTN for its commitment to community development and national transformation, through sports and other socio-economic interventions, and urged Ghanaians to patronize MTN’s services and do more business with the company to enable it give back more for the growth and development of the nation.

He thanked the management and staff of MTN, the chiefs and people of Techiman, Match Officials, Management and staff of Suncity Radio, other supporting media houses and all other stakeholders for their immense contributions towards the success and sustainability of the programme.
Mr Antwi also appealed to other individuals and corporate bodies to support Suncity Radio in its efforts at unearthing soccer talents from the lower ages to adult levels. Sixteen teams from various communities in the Techiman Municipality, namely: Holy Family, Sabon Zongo, Tunsuase, Dagomba Line, Blue Cross, Abuoso, Kenten, Central Zongo, Twimiakoase, Komfoↄkrom, Gyarko, New Krobo, Wangara Line, Takofiano, Ahenfi and Sisala Line, participated in the one-day competition .
Sisala Line beat Kenten 3-1 on penalties in the finals to win the competition, whilst Wangara Line disposed of Twimiakoase 3-2 also on penalties, to take the 3rd place. Clement Boahen, Richmond Munufie, both from Sisala Lime and Solomon Asamoah Gyan of Kenten won the Best Player, Best Goal keeper and Goal king awards respectively. They together with the winning team and runners up, took home mouth – watering prizes from MTN and Suncity Radio.
Mr Sulemana Braima, Brong Ahafo Regional Manager for MTN, in his closing remarks, commended the people of Techiman for their massive turn out and general comportment, which made the event very successful and memorable and urged Sunyani and Berekum to follow suit when they take their turns in the course of the month.
